Sand Casting Workshop Details

Saturday, August 22. This workshop will encompass a full day, 9-5 with an included lunch and will be held at the metalledwith studio in Boiling Springs, PA.
The focus of this class will be Sand type casting for jewelry and small scale objects.
Using this technique you work with already existing objects which are then reproduced.  Don’t be confused, this is different than lost wax casting, as we will not be carving wax.  This technique is very direct and is some ways much simpler than lost wax casting.  We will be using a special sand/clay material called: Delft clay for the process.  For demonstration purposes and experimentation Jesse will bring from Mexico original antique colonial era buttons which students can also use to reproduce if so desired.  We will be mostly working in silver and hopefully some bronze too.
